Folding Diagrams for the Egress:
A Dollar Bill Door (All 20 Steps)

The egress is a simple model that takes 5-10 minutes to make.
A U.S. dollar bill makes a 1 1/4 " x 1 " x 1/2 " (3 cm x 2 1/2 cm x 1 1/2 cm) model.
The dollar bill is 6 1/8 " x 2 1/2 " (15 1/2 cm x 6 1/3 cm).
(The dollar bill's proportions are 3 x 7 (or 1 x 2.414).)

Diagrams for steps 1-4.
  1. Start with a U.S. dollar bill, or other 3 x 7 paper.
    Valley fold and unfold along the centerline.
  2. Valley fold the right edge along a line
    between one-fifth and one-sixth of the way toward the centerline.
  3. Valley fold the bottom edge up,
    about twice as far as the right edge was folded in.
  4. Unfold to Step 3.
Diagrams for steps 5-9.
  1. Valley fold along the mid-line of the original paper.
  2. Valley fold the corner at a 45 degree angle.
  3. Mountain fold the bottom almost (but not quite) up to the crease.
  4. Unfold to Step 3.
  5. Valley fold the edge perpendicular to the rest of the paper.
Diagrams for steps 10-13.
  1. (This is a 3-D View.)
    "Mitre" the corner: valley fold the right side up,
    and fold the extra paper inside the model, behind the bottom flap.
  2. Collapse the model, keeping the extra paper locked away,
    as shown in diagram 12.
  3. Lock the edge by valley folding through all hidden layers.
    This can be a hard step; the precrease helps.
  4. Valley fold the white edge in, and tuck into the pocket.
Diagrams for steps 14-17.
  1. Valley fold at a 45 degree angle. The lower end should be
    between one-tenth and one-eighth of the remaining height
    of the paper above the lower edge.
  2. Mountain fold the frame in half.
  3. Mountain fold the frame in half again.
  4. Valley fold the frame. Each side should be slightly longer
    than the corresponding side of the door.

  1. Valley fold, and tuck into the door frame to lock the model.
